Site News

I know it was just a few short weeks ago when I moved this website over to IX Webhosting. But over the past couple of days, I have had nothing but problems with the host and the slow page loads of all of the sites they host for me.

I have decided that I am no longer going to host any of my sites on “Shared Hosting Accounts” because we are severely effected by the hundreds of other accounts hosted on that same server.

Tonight I took the plunge and paid for a dedicated server at a data center right here in the Seattle area. It will cost me substantially more, but the benefits greatly outweigh the added costs.

We will be on our own server, just one hop off of the main gateway to the InterTubes. We will have a guaranteed set of resources that we will not have to share with anyone else. This means faster page loads and it will give me total control of what is happening.

Having my own server will allow me to offer web hosting services to other people for relatively cheap, and you KNOW I will be right on top of things. (If Mark Perkel can start his own web hosting service using these servers, then why the hell can’t I?)

I have the server right now. It is a Dual Xeon, Dual Core with a RAID-6 and six gigs of RAM. I will be moving this site over to the new server sometime in the next week or so, and after that I will be offering web hosting accounts to anyone who is interested.

DJ, try either DreamHost or BlueHost. I’m thinking of using DreamHost at some point for my blog so I can have better control over layout and adding ads to it. It’s my understanding that BlueHost costs @ $160.00 for 2 years. Not a bad price. ;-) And…..getting your own server is key too! I don’t have the money for that just yet, but Larry who contributes to my blog says at some point I should think about it.

I love it over here and I hope what you’re doing works out better for you.

    Hugging a tree cause I’m a liberal…

Hugging a tree here in Maine, Frank, takes years. LOL Very tiring and causes lots of scrapes to your ‘front end’.

I love being here Frank! And thanks so much for coming over to my blog to share your thoughts. Love it! (Okay, where’s Mirth. Where is that woman hiding?!!) I would love to call into your show sometime. If I’m not mistaken, it’s on from 12-1pm on Fridays? That would be so much fun to do!!

(I used to always end my posts with this: “Hating the Bush Administration With All My Heart” It drove the neocons crazy!! Good.)

You are correct K woman noon to one PM PST. I love you both and thanks for taking your time to pretty up our site. I try to keep it neo con free because they are boring and predictable. It may seem like we’re all preaching to the same choir, but what’s the matter with that? I learn more from you two than all the reich-wingers in the world.

  8. Mirth Says:

Frank, Kay and I brought in a vase of flowers to pretty up your guy place a bit.
And sometimes we drop in to leave a few girly giggles.
But mostly we come to inform and be informed and to gather strength from like-minded souls for the fight.
Don’t need no stinkin’ reichwing for that.

I’ve tried them all, Kay. The best of the “shared” hosts is Hosting Matters, but even that one is tough to deal with — especially if yours is a Liberal site.

I work on a few Conservative sites — most notably Misha’s Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler and Hosting Matters is a good place for his site.

I’ve decided the best route is to stay away from “shared” webhosts because eventually they all tend to “overbook” their servers.

If you need a good host where you will not only have a lot of control over what you put up there, but also be sure not to lose server resources in the process, you might consider paying me a nominal fee to host it here.
