RNC is done

The RNC finished up their convention tonight. The roles seem to be clear. Governor Palin will take the role of attack dog, and Senator will act as kindly old war hero. We’ll try our best to provide perspective on this AND the DNC convention on tomorrows Equal Time. We don’t think it will take an hour to dissect this thing, so the first two segments will be dedicated to our FORGOTTEN heros, our veterans.

    For sometime I’ve been trying to figgure out why off shore drilling is so important. The other day I stumbled accross the answer in Wikipedia. While there are over 6000 dry land leases some completed wells capped off, why is off shore drilling so vital? It’s something called the Deep Water Royalty Relief Act.In the ’90s, when oil was around €15 per barrel, it was not profitable to drill off shore. To increase oil production the government passed laws to reduce and eliminate the royalties paid to the American people for oil taken from their property. The deeper the water, the less in royalties the oil companies have to pay.Take oil from dry federal lands, you have to share the profits with the American people. Take oil from underwater public lands and you get to keep all the money for your self.If the Royalty Relief Act was repealed, the urgency for off shore drilling would disappear.

    Good point Kat. I had heard something along these lines even affecting royalties from dry land drilling, something like they pay royalties on the price when the lease went into effect or something like that.
    The WHOLE energy plan of the GOP is to drill for maximum benefit of guess who? BIG OIL. The dems tried to get several things passed at the last minute before they went on recess. A use it or lose it for the federal leases, eliminating unfettered speculation,release oil from the strategic reserve and MY favorite, go ahead and drill, but keep the oil HERE. They (the GOPers) said NO to it ALL. Their (cheney’s) idiotic “energy policy” he shoved through early in this administration created massive wealth for his big oil buddies, but at the same time, economically rebuilt the former soviet bear who are now staring us into a global nuclear holocaust. Nice work bush and dick.
